Southtowns Education Summit
Parents, teachers, and community members from the East Aurora, Iroquois, and Holland school districts will be hosted a community forum on high stakes testing and today’s education on January 16, 2014 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Aurora Town Hall. Facilitated by teachers from the East Aurora Faculty Association, the Iroquois Faculty Association, and the Holland Teachers Association, they will be discussing the testing regime necessitated by the Regents Reform Agenda and its impact on classrooms and students.
Led by Dr. Mark Crawford, the Superintendent of the West Seneca Central School District, teachers will discuss the loss of instructional time due to the testing requirements, the problems with the test format, the impact of this testing on various grade levels, and the alphabet soup of acronyms that have clouded real discussion on improving student achievement and instruction.
Dr. Mark Garrison, Professor of Education Policy at D’Youville College, will conclude the evening with a discussion of the history of standardized testing and its faults. The forum will conclude with a question and answer session
